Battalion Commander
c/LTC Nguyen, Thanh
Hi, y’all. I’m your battalion commander for this SY of 2023/2024. I go by Yumi a.k.a BC. My job as a BC is to ensure that everything goes smoothly between SAI/AIs communication to all the events that we will attend for example cadet picnic, cadet balls, etc.… as well as making operation decisions such as setting up leadership camps and many other performances with our school association like ASB, football team.
As a student, I want to enjoy my high school year as best as I can and try new things out which has brought me to JROTC and that is something I am always grateful for. So I hope you guys will enjoy your high school year and put yourself out there and join some teams, and some clubs. It will help you a long way.
JROTC Career
I am c/LTC Nguyen and this is my 3rd being enrolled in JROTC (LET-3). I have been in the program since my freshman year so I'm pretty glad that I haven’t missed out on a lot of things. Last school year I was active in many teams which are raider, armed drill, regulation and competed in all 3 teams. This school year I will be only focusing on regulation teams in terms of going to competitions since I’m the commander, you are more and welcome to join regulation teams after school on Tuesday and Thursday.
One thing I always tell everyone is do not miss an opportunity of trying out new things so if you are interested in a team like raider, academic, color guard please let CSM know and we will help you out. There are a lot of privileges being a staff or team member such as reserved spots for big events: JCLC summer camp, cadet ball, etc. and we offered a lot of scholarships. So don’t be afraid to come and join us.
Academics
As a junior enrolled in BST small school, this is my 3rd year being on the honor roll. I am currently taking advanced and college classes. This school year a mini goal I set for myself is to boost my GPA by getting A’s for all of my classes, pretty challenging as a junior. I’m looking forward to doing something that is business-related in the future as a career. I am also considering going to the military. I have 1 year left to make these decisions.

Other Achievements
My biggest goals are to change and make JROTC become better, we may not be the best this school year but we are the changers. It meant a lot from reaching out to other communities, and better in organization of paperwork and cadet supplies. So as a BC I want to make it happen, I want us to win competitions and start being on track and active in the program. Lastly, to make other schools look at us with admiration especially make our SAI/ AIs proud. Hooah!!!

This is my 3rd year being in the varsity badminton team, to be honest, it is an underrated sport, especially in the US. But trust me it takes a lot of training and hard work to be a good player. Fun Fact about me is I have lived on the other side of the world for 11 years.
